A consultationHA lanldord licensing 17 to gather views on a proposed housing licensing scheme in areas of Barnsley will begin this week.

The introduction of a Selective Licensing Scheme is being explored as an option to help reduce antisocial behaviour and improve privately rented housing standards in four designated areas in Elesecar, Goldthorpe, Measbrough Dyke and Wombwell.

Local residents, tenants, landlords and other members of the community interested in the proposals are being encouraged to give feedback on the scheme. The consultation will take place from Wednesday 5 July to Sunday 24 September.

Further information and a link to complete the consultation can be found at www.barnsley.gov.uk/selectivelicensing. A number of drop-in events will be held at the following times and locations:

  • Tuesday 15 August -Gray Street Community Centre, Elsecar -3pm to 7.30 pm
  • Wednesday 16th August – Barnsley Town Hall (public open day for landlord and residents) -drop in anytime between 10am and 4pm
  • Thursday 17 August  -Wombwell library – 2pm to 6.30pm
  • Monday 21 August – Goldthorpe library – 3pm to 7.30pm
  • Wednesday 23 August  -Galtee More Care Home, Measbrough dyke – 3pm to 7.30pm

Cllr Jenny Platts, Cabinet Spokesperson for Communities, said: “Reducing antisocial behaviour and improving housing standards is a high priority for the council. We believe that the introduction of a Selective Licensing Scheme could be an effective way of tackling both.

“We’d like to hear the views of residents, landlords and partners and would encourage them to complete the online consultation or attend one of the drop in events.”
