Works begin next week on a programme to resurface Barnsley’s principal road network.
Works will start on Monday 23 January on the A61 Sheffield Road, Worsbrough, extending from Worsbrough Road towards Birdwell and on the A635 Doncaster Road, from Sunderland Terrace to Tuscany Gardens.
To carry out the works in the most efficient way possible the council has adopted a collaborative approach and will be working together with Rotherham Council. This new approach follows the Department of Transport’s sector-led transformation programme, known as the Highways Maintenance Efficiency Programme (HMEP), to transform delivery of roads and services through greater efficiencies.
Additional works will also take place at the following locations where advanced information signs will advise on start dates:
- A635 Barugh Green Road / Cawthorne Road /Higham Common Road junction area
- A6133 Cemetery Road, Barnsley – Doncaster Road to Clifton Street
- A628 Barnsley Road, Brierley – Haldane Close to Hilltop
To make sure the works are carried out safely some of the sites will have temporary road closures / diversions and speed reductions.
Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “The works provide a great opportunity to demonstrate the council’s progressive working methods by adopting the principles of HMEP and will significantly improve some of the borough’s most-used roads, which will benefit residents and local business.
“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and co-operation during these essential improvements.
