Job: Listening Volunteers

We are lookiing for Listening Volunteers who will provide emotional support for people experiencing feelings of distress or despair including those which may lead to suicide. This will be either by telephone, face to face, email, letter, SMS or any other means of communication which may be adopted by Samaritans.

Why not come along to one of our informal Information Sessions on either 29 October at 10 am or 23 November at 7.30 pm to learn more about Samaritans and what we do and meet current volunteers and others who are interested in the role of Listening Volunteer.

Job: Voluntary Fundraising Officer

We are looking for an enthusiastic volunteer who will be able to organise and co-ordinate fundraising activities to raise funds for the branch. Ideally the person would need fundraising experience and have leadership skills as they develop a fundraising team.

The applicant should be able to investigate sources of funds including grant giving trusts and make applications for funding on behalf of the branch.

A criminal records check by the Disclosure and Barring service would be carried out.

Job: Voluntary Publicity (Marketing) Officer

The main purpose of the role is to raise awareness of Samaritans in the local community by co-ordinating all publicity and public relations activities within the branch in order to recruit volunteers, raise funds and develop caller awareness.

Ideally this would be an outgoing person who will enjoy building up relationships with the local press, media and community, with a sound knowledge of Samaritans’ Vision, Mission and Values. They should be an excellent communicator, both oral and written and a natural networker with an ability to create and maintain relationships with various organisations and bodies. It is essential that they applicant is IT literate.

The ideal candidate would be a person with experience of publicity, marketing, PR, media or advertising.
